NVHR Update

NVHR Update 4/27/2004

The NVHR Board of Directors recently determined that there are opportunities to address the NVHR mission in advance of the “Viral Hepatitis Elimination Plan” currently in development and scheduled for release mid-2005. The Board believes that there is “no need to wait” until the Elimination Plan is completed, since so many of the issues are clear and those we serve can benefit from the NVHR advocating for action on Hepatitis A, B and C now.

The Board has therefore decided that the Roundtable should participate in the public policy process in state and national legislative and regulatory debates. In order to facilitate this participation, the Board has approved a process that will allow any member of NVHR to develop a Roundtable policy position and submit it to the Board for consideration.

A description of the policy process, and several examples, are attached. It is simple and easy to follow. Actions taken by the Roundtable in response to a member’s proposal will be communicated to the membership by email, and will be posted on the NVHR website. We sincerely hope that the membership will propose policy positions and that the collective voice of the 114 members will be effective in securing the changes that will benefit the people of this nation as we eliminate viral hepatitis and care for those who already suffer from these diseases.

If you have any questions regarding this process please contact me by email.

In the meantime, progress is being made on the plan itself.
